What's the difference between SEO and AEO/GEO?
SEO targets traditional Google search results pages — the blue-link list users see when they type a query. AEO (Answer Engine Optimisation) and GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation) target AI answer engines — Google AI Mode, AI Overview, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity — where users get a synthesised answer with a few cited sources. Different engines, different content patterns, different metrics.
Do I need both, or just one?
Most brands need both. SEO still drives the majority of click-through traffic in 2026. AEO/GEO drives consideration and short-listing — buyers who get an answer from ChatGPT and then look up the brands cited. We run them on parallel monthly cadences so they reinforce each other.
How do you track AI citations?
